BEHIND THE RESULT

A player behind the results

Andhra Chess Association’s February 2023 profile describes Alana Meenakshi Kolagatla as an 11-year-old player from Andhra Pradesh. It records the 2023 national child award and links that recognition to performances in 2022 and earlier. It also distinguishes two chess titles: Woman Candidate Master in 2021 and Woman FIDE Master in 2022. These are dated milestones in a player’s development, not labels that should be confused with the result of a single tournament. Her source photograph appears on her named award citation page.

Why dates matter in chess

The association’s account lists age-group ranking positions for particular years and acknowledges the people who supported her chess. Rankings belong to a specified list and date; an old position is not automatically a current world ranking. The report also separates her award presentation on 23 January 2023 from the following day’s interaction with the Prime Minister. Keeping those events apart makes the story easier to follow. A complete competition biography would still need the relevant result sheets rather than relying on a general summary of achievements.

Explore the choice before the move

You can enjoy a chess story without knowing every opening name. Start with a position from a beginner lesson and ask what each piece can do, which squares are safe, and what might happen after one move. This is our invitation to explore the game, not Alana’s personal study plan. Comparing two possible moves can be more useful than trying to play quickly. If you discuss the position with a friend, explain your reasoning and listen to theirs: the interesting part may be discovering an option neither of you noticed at first.
