BEHIND THE RESULT

The idea

On a school trip to a paralysis care centre, Pranet Khetan met patients who could not speak clearly — after a stroke, or with cerebral palsy or Parkinson’s — and who struggled to communicate with their own families. His answer is Paraspeak, a small AI device he developed as a student of Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram: it records a person’s slurred speech, sends it to a cloud-based AI model, and plays the words back in clear, fluent speech — including Hindi. Because no dataset of impaired Hindi speech existed, he recorded 28 patients and built one himself, then trained his model on it. The first real test of the device on patients took place in February 2025.

The recognition

In 2025, Paraspeak made Pranet one of four national winners of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2025, run by Samsung with IIT Delhi. In February 2026, at the India AI Impact Summit, Paraspeak won first prize in the YUVAi Global Youth Challenge — a Government of India (MeitY) initiative — against more than 2,500 entries from 38 countries. He was also named one of Samsung’s ten Global Solve for Tomorrow Ambassadors.

A spark to explore

Pranet’s invention began with one visit and one question. What problem have you seen up close that technology could help solve? That is a question from us, not part of his record.
