Philippines Country Sub-Editor, Jericho Quijano Zafra is a 3rd year AB Journalism student from the 400-year old Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Institute of Communication located in the city capital of the Philippines. With over nine (9) years of experience in campus journalism, Jericho Zafra has received various awards in leadership, journalism, and for his passion for literature. Recently, he joined the 8th Bodly Head Financial Times Essay Prize Competition Britain 2020, submitting essays themed with contemporary leadership and empowerment among the youth, women, and the socially-challenged LGBTQ+ Community aiming for safe public participation in political discourse and justice. He also contested in Palanca Awards 2019. He submitted a research study in the 6th National Journalism Research Conference in March 2020.
Based in an interview, he is a writer-activist in the Philippines, aiming to continue writing with and for the oppressed. He believes writing under a repressive regime is the only way to engrave history and not to forget how its people contended for their oppressed freedom. He wants to showcase leadership in ethical journalistic reportage. He loves to write political essays, literary pieces and is committed to writing for the Filipino community.
